More info about Holbox
Holbox is an incredible island but world class fishing is only the start of it!
Epic Tarpon fishing combines with one of Mexico’s most awesome beaches to create an unforgettably romantic vacation in the sun. While fishing is has been the main draw, the sun, beach and island vibe is definitely world class.
Summer season is prime time for the giant Tarpon migrating just offshore in shallow, sandy water. During the winter, Baby Tarpon are the the main target (October – March) plus Jack Crevalle and Snook are present year around as are Cobia, Snapper, Corvina and Barracudas, making for a great “grab bag” of fly fishing.
One of the world’s top fly fishing destinations, Whether spin or fly, Holbox will quickly become one of your favorites. Your guide will be waiting for you in front of the lodge at 6:00am each fishing day. and you’ll run “up island” a short distance offshore the beuatifiul white sand beaches until you find the fish and begin the day sight fishing in clear ocean or mangrove.
It is a classic fly fishing scene and with the supervision of our good guides, you will have the fight of your life. Afternoons will be spent wading the flats and poling the Mangrove Lagoons for babies, juveniles and Snook. Whether your gunning for the big boys or enjoying a lazy day casting to the babies, you’ll return to the lodge around 2:00pm.

Amenities include fresh water rod wash station, an open cerveza bar, and nightly “nearly world famous” Happy Hour with Ceviche and handmade Margaritas.
Our manager, Luciano, is there to fulfill our “Guest Pledge” to you. He’ll begin your day with an “espresso to your door wake-up” each morning, and may end it with fresh Ceviche at happy hour as the sun goes down. His concierge service can arrange island activities that include horseback in the surf, kayaking the lagoon, sightseeing the flamingos, swimming in the Cenote, parasailing and more.
He can arrange a golf cart exploration of the island and beachfront massages… and if you want to spend the day adventuring, swim with the sharks or visit the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza.
And finally, the Island itself. First, this is a memorable bit of white sand paradise— European flavor mixed with a successful Mexican Fishing Puebla. Travel is by golf carts only and two story boutique hotels, international restaurants— they are all an easy walk from the lodge. Holbox’s unique reputation as a kind of foodie paradise combined with a European flair that makes for a truly one of a kind destination. Add to that the worlds greatest Tarpon fishery and you have Holbox Island.
